Once upon a time, we weren’t sure if this season would ever fully get completed. Thankfully, it did. Here we are, just before the state playoffs, and delivering our Final Power Rankings as the End of the Regular Season is in the books.

#1 LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 22-4 (11-1)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

Simply amazing! This group of David Dowse had one goal in 2020-21…to Hang A Banner. First time in 30 years…that was the motto all season, and mission accomplished. The Lady Indians, once ranked as high as #1 in the state polls, set many records and have now won 11 games in a row heading into the state tournament. The 22 wins is, by our account, the most in school history, and Dowse already has 63 wins in just 4 seasons, far better than between 2009-2017, when the program combined for 34 wins over the course of those 8 seasons. Anyway, this team is now set to do some damage in the state tournament…look out!

#2 JEFFERSON

RECORD: 21-4 (11-1)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

The Lady Dragons played in the region title game against Flowery Branch on Saturday, earning a 9-point win. It makes for a third straight region title, and they have 3 straight 20-win seasons now too. The bigger picture is getting past the state quarterfinals, which is the hump Jefferson has been trying to get over for the past 2 playoffs.

#3 RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 18-6 (4-2)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

The Lady Cats fell to Elbert County in the region championship game. Rabun still gets to host a playoff game, and it marks the 13th straight season going to the postseason. It remains the gold standard for girls basketball around the area. DeeDee Dillard’s group will be the toughest 2-seed in Class 2A.

#4 HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 18-5 (9-3)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

The Lady Raiders entered the region tournament with already a playoff ticket in hand. The girls met up Friday with Lanier in the semis, and won, advancing to the region title game Saturday against undefeated Buford. The girls fell, but this year’s 18 wins are the most since the 23 back in 2011-12, and Habersham will look to repeat that team’s success by reaching at least the Sweet 16.

#5 STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 17-6 (7-2)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

The Lady Indians took a 3-game win streak into the region championship game Friday against East Jackson and came out victorious with a region title! The girls are in the playoffs for the second straight season, and are a top-10 ranked team in Class 3A.

#6 TALLULAH FALLS

RECORD: 16-7 (7-1)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

Tallulah Falls fell in the region championship to Athens Academy, but will host a playoff game in round one at least. The team is 2 wins shy of tying the school record of 18 set in ’18-’19, and will be seeking a third straight Sweet 16 appearance with a first round win. TFS is a top-10 ranked team in Class 1A Private.

#7 WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 11-9 (10-2)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

The Lady Warriors have been a top-10 ranked team this season in Class 3A, and got into the playoffs for the 4th straight time, though this time with a semifinals region tournament loss to Gilmer means they will need to be the hardest 4-seed in the state.

#8 BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 16-11 (2-4)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

The Lady Leopards have previously been ranked as a top-10 team in Class 2A, and claimed the third seed out of 8-A with a win in the consolation game against Union County. Banks County has been in the playoffs for 7 straight seasons now, and will be looking to make it past the first round for a 4th straight year.

#9 COMMERCE

RECORD: 16-10 (10-2)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

The Lady Tigers reeled off 14 out of 15 games, including a semifinals win over Towns on Thursday. In Friday’s championship game against Lake Oconee Academy, the girls fell. This marks the team’s 4th trip to state in the last 7 seasons.

#10 DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 13-12 (5-8)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

Dawson fell in an overtime heart-breaker to end their season in the region quarterfinals. The girls did record a winning season for the 4th straight time and 8 of the last 9 seasons. It will mark the first absence from the playoffs for the program since 2011-12.

#11 TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 11-12 (8-4)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

Towns County has secured a playoff spot for just the second time since 2014-15. The girls last were in state just two years ago when they made a Sweet 16 run. A win in the consolation game gave Towns a 3-seed in the tourney.

#12 UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 2-12 (0-6)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #12

The Lady Panthers will take the 4-seed out of region 8-AA, and will be in the playoffs for the second straight season.
