Girls Basketball Power Rankings – December

With some games in the books, we take a look at how all the local teams line up as of right now.

#1 JEFFERSON

RECORD: 4-1 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

The Lady Dragons are as good as ever. Could this be the year? The #1-state ranking has been a result of the hard work put in by these girls, who have twice beaten a solid Banks County group.

#2 RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 3-0 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

It was a statement win for the Lady Cats, who downed #6-ranked Stephens County to open the season. Overall, they are 3-0 and ranked #2 in the state.

#3 STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 4-1 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

Ranked #6 in the state, the Lady Indians gave Rabun a run for its money. Stephens has wins over Union and Habersham and have won two straight.

#4 HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 6-1 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

Other than an early loss to Stephens, the Lady Raiders are looking extremely good, bolstered by a pair of wins over White County. The girls started out 5-0.

#5 TALLULAH FALLS

RECORD: 6-2 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

The Lady Indians are off to a great 6-2 start, and ranked #9 in the state currently with a big date coming up with Stephens County on Saturday. Denika Lightbourne, Katy Corbett, Veronaye Charlton, and Iray Adeleke are really making noise!

#6 BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 6-3 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

The Lady Leopards are impressing once again. Banks has a win over Commerce and White, and has dropped a couple to #1-ranked Jefferson. This group is solid as always.

#7 LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 3-3 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

The Lady Indians are coming off a win that got them back on track. Lumpkin has Isabel Davenport and Makenzie Caldwell playing their usual good ball, as well as Lexi Pierce and Mary Mullinax.

#8 WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 2-6 (1-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

The record is not indicative of how good this team is. There are so many playmakers, and the best of all has been out to injury in Dasha Cannon. Her coming back will be pivotal to this team in its run to a hopeful region title. Even without their star senior, they got a big statement upset win at Dawson to open region play.

#9 DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 5-2 (0-1)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

A loss to White County is all that keeps Dawson here. Otherwise, they’d likely be up near 6 or so. Maddie Anglin and Kirklyn Porter have been very good this season so far.

#10 COMMERCE

RECORD: 2-4 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

The Lady Tigers are 2-4 overall and have dropped 2 straight. One of those was against Banks County.

#11 TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 1-2 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #12

To be fair, Towns hasn’t gotten to play much lately. They split against Union and dropped one to Tallulah Falls.

#12 UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 1-3 (0-0)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

The Lady Panthers are featuring many new players this season. Ava Hunter is still Ava Hunter, but others will need to grow quickly to help get this team where it was last season. They’re a sleeper though, so no one should count them out.
