Lumpkin’s Jones, Dawson’s Anglin Earn Player of the Week

The Player of the Week Fan Vote for Girls Basketball Player of the Week topped out at 14,981 votes, with Lumpkin County’s Averie Jones tallying 7,424 to win the award. BLITZ then picked Dawson County’s Maddie Anglin as Co-POW.

AVERIE JONES – FAN VOTE

It’s another new name from Lumpkin County that we should all get used to. Averie Jones, a guard, averaged 11.7 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game over 3 games played last week for the Lady Indians. If she continues to play like that, she helps shore up an already solid team that has a serious chance of winning a region title this year. This is Jones’ first POW award.

MADDIE ANGLIN – BLITZ PICK

Dawson’s talented guard is at it again. Senior Maddie Anglin is even better than she was last year as an All-Region talent. She went OFF last week in a pair of games for the Lady Tigers, pretty much scoring at will. She had 53 points, averaging 26.5 per contest, along with 10 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists in total.
