Softball State Playoff Updates: Commerce Advances, Stephens Forces Game 3


Monday saw the opening action in the 2020 GHSA State Tournament for softball. Here are the matchups, as previously reported, and their current standing. Some played on Monday, while others open up on Tuesday.
Those who won a region title include: Banks (tournament), Union (regular season), and Commerce (regular season and tournament).
STATE PLAYOFFS
#1 BANKS COUNTY W 2-0 vs #4 CALLAWAY
Banks County won 5-0 and 12-0 to sweep Callaway and advance to the Sweet 16! The Lady Leopards play Pepperell on Thursday in the next round at home.
#1 COMMERCE W 2-0 vs #4 CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY
The Lady Tigers blasted into the Sweet 16, winning 11-0 and 18-0 over visiting Chattahoochee County! The girls next play Trion at home on Friday.
#4 HABERSHAM CENTRAL L 0-2 @ #1 ALEXANDER
The Lady Raiders fought hard but fell 1-0 in 11 innings and then 4-0 in the second game to finish their season.
#3 JEFFERSON W 2-0 @ #2 LUELLA
The Lady Dragons won 10-1 and 9-7 over Luella on the road, advancing to the Sweet 16!
#2 LUMPKIN COUNTY L 0-2 vs #3 ROCKMART
The Lady Indians fell to Rockmart 12-2 and 8-5, thus ending their season.
#4 RABUN COUNTY L 0-2 @ #1 BREMEN
Rabun fell 8-0 and 13-2 on the road at Bremen, thus ending their season.
#4 STEPHENS COUNTY L 1-2 @ #1 SANDY CREEK
The Lady Indians forced game three at Sandy Creek. After dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker, they won 8-0 to play again on Wednesday for a chance to go to the Sweet 16. UPDATE: Stephens fell in game three to end its season.
#3 UNION COUNTY L 0-2 @ #2 HEARD COUNTY
The Lady Panthers dropped two straight, 8-0 and 7-2 to close their season with an early exit at state.
#3 WHITE COUNTY L 0-2 @ #2 SONORAVILLE
The Lady Warriors ended their season with a 5-0 and 7-3 loss at Sonoraville.
