Crystal Ball: Week 7 Predictions

Week 7 means we have flipped to the back of the page for the second half of the season. Some big games on tap Friday night!

DISCLAIMER: We dissect the numbers, check against other projections, utilize the brain and not the heart. If we pick against any of our beloved 11 programs, take it as a diss if you want, or use it as motivation. We obviously would love to see all 11 programs win every single game, so we’ll celebrate even if we’re wrong if it means our locals walk off the field as winners.

#7 White County vs North Hall

The Warriors are coming off a tough loss to rivals Dawson. While it does give the Tigers the inside track to a region title, there is still plenty of ball to play. All White County can do is focus on themselves now, and that begins with North Hall, an old familiar rival. The defense will need to shut the door quickly on the option and standout running back Clark Howell. The other question is, does J Ben Haynes play in this game? That will impact the outcome significantly, though the Warriors are more than capable of winning this game even without their leader. Silas Mulligan is really coming into his own at running back, and we like what we’re seeing from Darius Cannon as well on the offensive side of the ball. VERDICT: WHITE COUNTY

Habersham Central vs #2 Buford

Habersham Central doesn’t care about the name of the other jerseys. Look for the Raiders to make some plays here and there. Ultimately, the talent level at Buford is, as always, tremendously high. They have a handful of future DI players on the roster. Habersham is fresh off a region-opening win that is HUGE as this Buford game marks the beginning of a ridiculous stretch that includes Buford, Dacula, and Lanier. VERDICT: BUFORD

#1 Jefferson vs East Hall (CANCELED)

The Dragons and East Hall canceled due to COVID concerns. For what it’s worth, we had made our VERDICT: JEFFERSON

Towns County vs Lincoln County (CANCELED)

The Indians have canceled their game with Lincoln County due to COVID concerns. For what it’s worth, we had made our VERDICT: TOWNS

#3 Commerce vs Greene County

The Tigers are up to #3 in the state polls, and are looking the part. Except for one blemish on the record, Commerce continues to get production out of nearly every player on the roster. The offense has been very good so far, and extremely difficult to stop. VERDICT: COMMERCE

#1 Rabun County @ Pope

The Cats set a new record when hanging 70 on East Jackson. Gunner Stockton’s 8 total TD and 422 passing yards were both career bests, and came in just 2.5 quarters of play. Pope is by no stretch a powerhouse program, but the Greyhounds are a 6A school, which means they have way more in terms of numbers. Still, they can’t contain this Wildcat offense, and haven’t yet seen a defense like Rabun’s either. VERDICT: RABUN COUNTY

Stephens County @ Monroe Area

The Indians are riding high with a 4-1 start to the season. After an electrifying and satisfying win over arch-rivals Habersham Central and a bye week, Stephens County is energized and well-rested. Monroe Area is looking just as good with an identical 4-1 mark through half the schedule. This one might be intense! VERDICT: STEPHENS COUNTY

Lumpkin County @ Gilmer

Lumpkin County is still winless on the season. The Indians won’t be judged on their record this season, but in the fight they show the rest of the way in each game, quarter, and play. Gilmer is no slouch, but also don’t really light up the board very much. VERDICT: GILMER

Predicted winners are in bold

West Hall vs Cherokee Bluff
Gainesville vs Lambert
Denmark vs Forsyth Central
Johnson vs Walnut Grove
Chestatee @ North Oconee
Lakeview @ #1 Fellowship Christian
