Indians Score 20 Unanswered In Rivalry Win Over Habersham [VIDEO]

It was another thriller in the Habersham/Stephens County rivalry, as the Indians won 27-12 in Toccoa. This episode featured a rarity – a 0-0 halftime score. Both teams social distanced from the end zone for 24 minutes, then scored two TDs in the first minute and a half of the third quarter. The difference was Stephens’ 20 unanswered points to close the game.

Gamarion Carter and Ben Stowe were a deadly duo, as the Liberty receiver Carter had a 76-yard TD and 65-yard TD catch from Stowe. Stowe also rushed for a TD, and threw a third TD pass to Cam’ron Lacy. Habersham’s Joshua Pickett accounted for both scores, rushing for one and throwing for another.

Neither team sniffed the end zone in the first half, though both would be turned away with turnover on downs or turnovers in general. Pickett was picked off twice in the first half (and three times overall), when Bailey Stowe and Kevin Watson both recorded interceptions.

The Raiders (2-2) missed a short field goal to close out the first half, leaving us with a 0-0 score at the break. On the first play from scrimmage in the third, Stowe connected on a short pass with Gamarion Carter, who raced 76 yards to the end zone for the game’s first score. Just over a minute later, Pickett responded with a 34-yard TD run. The extra point missed, so the Indians (4-1) held a slim 7-6 lead.

The Raiders took their first lead with a 36-yard TD pass from Pickett to Grayson Taylor with just over three minutes to go in the third. After an interception by Austin Wood in the red zone, it appeared Habersham, with a 12-7 lead and the ball, could start putting the game away.

However, the Indians took the lead for good when on the final play of the third, Stowe found an open Cam’ron Lacy on the sideline. He sped 65 yards for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning TD. The 13-12 lead was added to early in the fourth when Stowe ran one in from 10 yards out. That pushed the lead to 20-12.

Stephens County for good measure added a 42-yd TD from Stowe to Carter with 4:36 left in the game. The TD was the final nail in the coffin, and capped the scoring at 27-12.

Stephens moves to 4-1, while the Raiders go to 2-2. The Indians reclaim the supremacy in the series after losing last year for the first time in 23 years against Habersham Central.
