Game of the Week: Habersham Central vs White County

Our Game of the Week sends us to John Larry Black Field, where the Raiders and Warriors both are without blemish. Something has to give tonight…

The Raiders (2-0) are looking to go to 3-0 for the first time since 2016. Habersham Central has earned convincing wins over both Madison County and Apalachee. The run game has been the bread and butter so far, and that will continue to be key. We’re seeing a team that doesn’t throw as much as it has the last several seasons, but when you have Jackson Clouatre (fresh off a record 305-yd rushing game; ranks first among Class 6A rushers) and an athlete like Joshua Pickett (Duke commit), this team plays to its strength. The O-Line has been solid, and the defense has the potential to be the best in the Benji Harrison era. Coming off a bye week, the guys are well rested.

The #5-ranked Warriors have everything clicking. A 3-0 start is likely just the beginning. J Ben Haynes is playing at such a high level, and already has over 1,000 yards total (rushing/passing), and the weapons around him are playing as well as expected. The defense continues to shine as well. White County is looking to go 4-0 for the first time since 1975. So far, the wins have come over Stephens County, #7-ranked Hart County, and Pickens. One more win for this program equals 300 in its history.

This game presents a litmus test for both programs. White County is loaded on both sides of the ball. The offense is so multi-dimensional that it will be a tough task for the Habersham defense. The Raiders ground game on the flip side will put a lot of pressure in the box, and at that second level of the White County defense. This one calls for a FAN VOTE OUR PICK: FAN VOTE

Not for the Raiders. We’ve captured 44 games for the Raiders (most out of all local programs), and they’ve gone 13-31 in those contests. That track record is a little better for White County, as they have gone 15-11 in 26 games we’ve documented for them.

This game hasn’t been featured very often in the history of the programs. Only 10 meetings have been scheduled all time despite the very short distance. That said, Habersham holds the 7-3 advantage, including the last two in 2019 and 2018. White County won the 2017 version. The matchup was held 4 times in the 1990s, and then finally renewed in 2012, 2013, 2016-19. In the 2010s, the teams have both won 3 each. Below are the versions of this matchup that we have been to.
