Indians Building Confidence After 2-1 Start [VIDEO]
Things have gotten exciting in Stephens County coming off back-to-back wins to move to 2-1 on the season. Getting that kind of success early is more important than meets the eye.
“It’s just really big for our kids,” says coach Wesley Tankersley. “We didn’t have a great year last year. To start off with a couple of wins and get that confidence is big for them.”
The team fell 44-6 to White County in Week 1, but Tankersley got his guys to forget about that one and focus on the next ones. He said that at halftime of that game, he realized they could work on some things and adjust and learn.
Ben Stowe has emerged as the full-time QB after starting the season in a dual-QB role.
“We just felt like it was going to be better for us,” says Tankersley on the move to go with Stowe and move former QB Kenny Colwell to receiver. “We needed to settle in…get some more consistency. Ben gives us more of a run threat there, and Kenny has started at wide receiver the last couple of games and been a good leader for us.”
The Indians earned back-to-back wins over North Hall and Jackson County. Next up is Madison County, followed by Habersham Central in a big-time rival matchup.
“We want to win,” says Tankersley on the goal over the next two games ahead of region competition. “We want to get two wins and keep building on that confidence as we head into region play.”
