Historic Nights Earn This Trio Player of the Week Honors

The Player of the Week voting saw 8,456 votes pour in, with Towns County’s Kyle Oakes (3,458) taking the majority. BLITZ then picked Habersham Central’s Jackson Clouatre and Rabun County’s Gunner Stockton as Co-Players of the Week.

It was a long time coming, but the Towns County Indians got back in the win column after not chalking up a “W” since 2018. The 11-game losing streak was over after the horn sounded and had Towns County as 28-14 winners over Bethlehem Christian at home in Week 2.

It was junior tailback Kyle Oakes that provided all the points, accounting for all four TDs, and rushing for 278 yards on 33 carries, which was good for 8.4 yards per tote. This also set the school single-game rushing record for an individual. This is Oakes’ first Player of the Week award.

Another single-season rushing record was set when Habersham Central earned their second win of the season in Week 2 at Apalachee. Senior star running back Jackson Clouatre pounded out 305 rushing yards, and even added a 24 yard catch. He found the end zone three times, and averaged an insane 14.5 yards per carry.

This is Clouatre’s third career Player of the Week award.

On national television (ESPN), with the whole world watching, Gunner Stockton did what he normally does. That’s win and come up with big moments. The junior Rabun 5-star quarterback, recently committed to South Carolina, went off for 5 touchdowns. He passed for 187 yards and 2 TD, and rushed for 189 yards on 30 carries, adding 3 TD on the ground. His TD pass to Adriel Clark on the final drive won the game over fellow 5-star QB Brock Vandagriff and the #2-ranked Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines.

This is Stockton’s 11th career Player of the Week award.
