Game of the Week: Rabun County vs Prince Avenue Christian

The BLITZ Game of the Week sends us to Tiger for the first time this season. We’ve seen some great games over the past 12 years, but this one has a chance to be among the best, with the top QBs in the country going at it under the lights.

RABUN COUNTY

The Wildcats (1-0) are fresh off a game in which everything seemed to be clicking at Ridgeland (35-0 victory). This next opponent is a giant leap better, but Rabun should be ready for the challenge. In fact, Rabun didn’t show much of its hand against Ridgeland. Expect to see the playbook wide open this week. While everyone knows about Gunner Stockton, it’s guys like Lang Windham, Hogan Woodard, Will McCraw, Bear Old, Brody Jarrard, Adriel Clark, Tate Ramey, etc that like flying under the radar. Jaybo Shaw is now 13-1 in his first 14 games as a head coach.

PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN

The Wolverines (1-0) are also fresh off a dominating win in which QB Brock Vandagriff went off for 6 total TDs. He makes all the guys around him better. He has many weapons at his disposal, and the defense is pretty solid as well.

OUR PREDICTION

Rabun County is battle-tested and won’t be fazed by a nationally televised game, or a 5-star QB on the other side of the field. The defense is hungry, and disciplined. That may be the difference in this one. Gunner Stockton and company will get their highlights, and it may be the unsung guys that wind up being the difference makers. Here’s a cool stat that will blow your mind also. Brock Vandagriff has 103 career TD coming in (65 pass, 34 rush, 4 rec). Gunner Stockton has 117 (80 pass, 37 rush), in basically two seasons less. Between the duo, that’s 220 touchdowns! OUR PICK: RABUN COUNTY

DO WE BRING LUCK?

Yes, in 38 games we’ve been to for Rabun, the Cats are 30-8. Five of those losses are playoff games. The other three are to Jefferson, next week’s opponent. Then again, Rabun doesn’t need luck when they have so much talent and a winning culture.
