Late-August Softball Power Rankings

We’ve got a handful of games in the books, which means it’s prime time for us to take another look at the Power Rankings for softball. Here we go!

#1 JEFFERSON

RECORD: 2-1 (0-1)
LAST RANKING: #2
STATE RANK: #5

The Lady Dragons got a big opening win over Banks County, and then another over East Hall in 3-2 fashion. The back-breaker was a 1-0 loss Thursday night to open region play to Flowery Branch. That was a rain-shortened affair for the #5 Jefferson squad.

#2 BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 3-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #1
STATE RANK: #1

Banks County slides down a pinch after an opening loss to Jefferson. However, the girls have rebounded well with three straight wins, including two over Stephens County. Madi Cronic has slugged three homeruns through four games!

#3 HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 8-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #7
STATE RANK: N/A

Habersham is riding a hot streak right about now, which includes going 8-1 overall and 2-0 in region. The 8 wins have been consecutive after an opening loss to Prince Avenue to start the year. The Lady Raiders have since avenged that loss with a big win over PAC, and have also beaten locals White and Stephens.

#4 COMMERCE

RECORD: 3-0 (3-0)
LAST RANKING: #3
STATE RANK: #4

The Lady Tigers are insanely good on offense, and pitching for that matter. But 16-1 over Towns County, 11-0 over Wash-Wilkes, and 12-0 over Lake Oconee County, and that’s 38 runs against just one allowed. They’re ranked #4 in the state, and looking like a state championship type team.

#5 UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 2-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #6
STATE RANK: #5

The Lady Panthers split with Lumpkin early on, and have added a win over White County as well. Union is ranked #5 in the state.

#6 LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 3-5 (1-1)
LAST RANKING: #4
STATE RANK: #8

The Lady Indians haven’t had the results they probably hoped for, but an 8-0 win over White County on Thursday gets them on track with that first region win. Lumpkin has split against Union, and though being shut out two times in a row in scoring only two runs over a three-game period, the girls have rebounded with an 8-run outburst against White.

#7 WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 2-3 (1-1)
LAST RANKING: #5
STATE RANK: N/A

The Lady Warriors had a two-game win streak snapped with a loss to Lumpkin. Prior to that, White County scored 30 runs over the two wins, taking one from Rabun and North Hall. They have fallen this season to Habersham Central and Union as well.

#8 DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 1-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #10
STATE RANK: N/A

A 12-4 win over West Hall is that we have on the books for Dawson right about now. There’s enough talent on this team to know that they can only move up from here as they continue to get some games in.

#9 RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 2-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #8
STATE RANK: N/A

The Lady Cats are 1-1 so far on the season that we know of. That includes a loss to White County, thus pinning Rabun here in our Power Rankings. The 10-1 win over Clarke Central was nice though, as was a 20-run downpour against Cherokee Bluff.

#10 TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 2-1 (0-1)
LAST RANKING: #11
STATE RANK: N/A

Towns County did drop a big one to Commerce, but a 14-4 win and 15-0 also over West Hall shows what this team is capable of.

#11 STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 0-6 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #9
STATE RANK: N/A

The Lady Indians have taken some tough losses so far, but it is early. The losses include two to Banks County and one to Habersham Central.
