Habersham’s Barfield, Union’s Queen earns first POW Awards of 2020-21

The fan vote for Player of the Week saw 27,246 votes come in, and Habersham’s Bailey Barfield (11,463) was the leading vote-getter, ahead of Stephens County’s Kaylin Snyder (9,570). While Barfield earned the Fan Vote POW, the first of the 2020-21 school year, BLITZ then picked Union County’s Trinity Queen as the Co-POW.

BAILEY BARFIELD – FAN VOTE

Bailey Barfield is out to make a name for herself. In opening week action (the week of August 3-8), the sophomore second baseman stood out for the Lady Raiders.

The Habersham native collected two hits, drove in a run, and scored another as the Lady Raiders opened the season with a 4-3 loss to Prince Avenue Christian. This is Barfield’s first-ever Player of the Week award.

TRINITY QUEEN – BLITZ PICK

Union County’s star pitcher Trinity Queen was as-advertised in the Lady Panthers season-opener. The senior collected the victory in the circle, allowing just one run over seven innings, striking out six batters in the process as they beat Lumpkin County 8-1. She gave up seven hits (all singles), and worked out of the few jams she was caught in.

Queen and Union would fall in the second game to Lumpkin, but the standout pitcher also collected an RBI single in game one and had a run-scoring double in the second game, a 9-7 loss. This is Queen’s first Player of the Week award.
