Diamond Preview 2020: White County

White County comes into 2020 looking to start the same way it did a year ago…but finish stronger. There are certainly the pieces to make this a special season in Cleveland.

Head Coach: Drew Owens, 6th Season
2019 Record: 12-11; Region 5th; #4 State Ranking
Personnel
Key Departures: N/A
Key Returning Players: Lianna O’Kelly, Annika Vandiver, Kaitlyn Bowman, Cree Cantrell, Katie Palmer, Emily Anderson, Reagan Dunagan (out for season with injury)
Unfortunately for White County, star Reagan Dunagan, a junior, is out for the season with an injury. She’ll still be able to lead the team in other ways, as the Lady Warriors will count a lot on the two seniors, Katie Palmer and Emily Anderson, as they patrol the outfield. This team is still fairly young, and players like Liana O’Kelly and Annika Vandiver, as well as Kaitlyn Bowman (shortstop) and Cree Cantrell (infielder/catcher) will help lead the girls this fall.
Strengths & Areas of Focus
Strengths: Winning culture and coaching. Owens has a way of getting the most out of his players, and the White County brand precedes itself. The former State Champions (2010) have made the playoffs 8 times in the past 11 seasons, and will look to add to that total in 2020.
Focusing On: Finishing. The amazing start last season for White County that saw the Lady Warriors grab a #4 state ranking was followed by a tough back-half of the season. This year, to make it back to state will take finishing ahead in those close games.
