Volleyball Preview 2020: Tallulah Falls
We should see a special season in 2020 for the Lady Indians. After another 20-win campaign and playoff run, and returning one of the best players in the area, things could line up very well.
Head Coach: Matt Heyl, 3rd Season
2019 Record: 22-20; State Round 1; Region Runner-Up; #7 State Ranking
Tallulah Falls is fresh off a FIFTH consecutive state tournament appearance. Just two years ago (2018), the team made a Sweet 16 run. Last year featured 22 wins, marking a fourth time in five years eclipsing 20 wins. The #7 state ranking was the third year in a row finding themselves in the polls.
Key Departures: Kate Blackburn, Lillie Free, Vjera Radovic
Key Returning Players: Katy Corbett, Abby Carlan, Rebekah Jennings, Sarah Jennings, Emily Church, Barrett Whitener, Evette Corwin, Nancy Fisher, Allie Dalton, Sarah Jennings, Addy McCoy (freshman)
Yes, it’s no question that Kate Blackburn’s departure is a huge void. She’s one of the best to suit up for TFS. That said, the Lady Indians bring back the undisputed best player from last season in Katy Corbett (reigning Player of the Year), and freshman phenom Sarah Jennings. Rebekah Jennings returns as a senior, and Abby Carlan, Barrett Whitener, and Nancy Fisher all will play big roles this year.
Strengths & Areas of Focus
Strengths: Culture, core players back, blocking
Focusing On: Taking the next step. There is a lot to like about this team in 2020, but chasing only a state playoff berth will be only the beginning. The bar is higher than ever for TFS.
