Girls Hoops Power Rankings: Mid-December

SBT Team online ad FOOTBALL

The girls basketball scene this year (much like last season) is very good! Many of these teams are beating up on each other and the ones that fall down in our rankings could easily be around the top. Here’s our official Mid-December version of Girls Hoops Power Rankings.

#1 JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS

RECORD: 11-1 (3-0)
LAST RANKING: #1

The #2-ranked Lady Dragons continue to rake! There’s no sign of slowing down, and we feel that this team has a great shot to get to the Final Four and legitimately have the talent to win a state title.

#2 RABUN CO LADY WILDCATS

RECORD: 8-0 (2-0)
LAST RANKING: #2

Rabun is unblemished to this point, and we’re seeing so much growth on this roster from the younger players. DeeDee Dillard once again has a team that can fight for a State Championship. Wins include Habersham, twice over Stephens, and Banks.

#3 UNION CO LADY PANTHERS

RECORD: 7-1 (2-0)
LAST RANKING: #6

Things are going so well for Union County right now, as the girls have a pair of wins over Towns County, and wins over White County and Tallulah Falls. This is shaping up to make the games against Rabun County look pretty important.

#4 LUMPKIN CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 7-4 (2-2)
LAST RANKING: #4

Lumpkin County is off to a solid start, and wins over White County and Banks have proven where this team belongs. A big date next with Dawson will clear this picture even more.

#5 STEPHENS CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 8-3 (1-0)
LAST RANKING: #5

The Lady Indians, apart from a pair of losses to #1-ranked Rabun, shine brightly this season. Too many standouts to single out players, but the roster is flooded with playmakers. A 1-0 start to region play is just what the girls hoped for.

#6 DAWSON CO LADY TIGERS

RECORD: 6-5 (2-1)
LAST RANKING: #3

Dawson has dropped some games as of late, including a game to Jefferson and White County to alter the Power Rankings here. Still, this team has a great core and Steve Sweat will almost assuredly get this team in a position later in the season to be looking postseason ready.

#7 COMMERCE LADY TIGERS

RECORD: 6-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #8

Commerce, along with many others in this part of the rankings, really deserve to be higher. But that’s the problem when most of the girls’ teams are so good this year. Commerce sits ahead of Towns County, and really could do above or below Tallulah Falls right now with very similar results.

#8 WHITE CO LADY WARRIORS

RECORD: 6-5 (2-1)
LAST RANKING: #7

The girls are really turning things around after a horrid 1-4 start with tough-luck losses. Now, with a recent win over Dawson, not to mention a pair over Habersham Central, and White County is looking more like the team that had much success last season. Losses to Lumpkin and Union keep them here in our rankings.

#9 TALLULAH FALLS LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 6-3 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #9

Tallulah Falls has done well as of late, and hopefully will be peaking come February!

#10 HABERSHAM CENTRAL LADY RAIDERS

RECORD: 5-5 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #10

The girls are a respectable 5-5 through 10 contests, which matches the win total of last season and the year prior. Should the Lady Raiders find within them to win double-digits, it will show this program is finally back on track closer to the rest of this decade minus the past two rebuilding years.

#11 BANKS CO LADY LEOPARDS

RECORD: 3-4 (1-1)
LAST RANKING: #11

Banks County is still a threat to be sure. Ask teams like Jefferson, who barely got by, or Lumpkin, or Stephens (who they split with). This team could easily be somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-1. There are many emerging players coming into their own.

#12 TOWNS CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 2-4 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #12

Towns County has dropped a pair to Union and another to Commerce, getting them here in the rankings. Kennedi Henson continues to impress, and it’s hard to believe she’s still only a junior!
