Rabun and Stephens squared off a week ago. The results were about the same, as the #1-ranked and unbeaten Lady Wildcats (6-0) won 73-63 in Tiger on Tuesday night. Despite going up by as many as 24 in the third quarter, the visiting #9-ranked Lady Indians (6-3) surged back to close within 5.
Both teams traded buckets in the first quarter, and Rabun held a slim 14-12 lead. The second quarter saw the Lady Cats play about as perfect a quarter as you could want, scoring 32 points, using a 28-4 run to pull ahead 46-23 heading into the break. It was Gracie Deetz who did the bulk of the damage with 15 of her team-high 16 coming in the first half.
The third quarter mirrored the first, with Stephens edging Rabun 11-10 to pull within 56-34 going into the final 8 minutes. However, the fourth was a role reversal of sorts of the second quarter. The Lady Indians used unbelievable shooting by Kiki Howard, who scored 15 of her game-high 17 in the second half, including 13 straight points all by herself. Savana Broska also played well in the half, scoring 10 of her also-game-high 17.
The Lady Indians twice got within 5 points, including in the final couple of minutes, but the Lady Cats and senior Laken Stiles put the game away at the free throw line. Rabun shot 87% from the stripe (20-for-23) in the game, while Stephens shot 71% (22-for-31).
Broska and Howard led all scorers with 17, while Ranajah Verdell had 11 and Nana Eades 10 to also score in double figures. Gracie Deetz led Rabun with 16, while Stiles closed with 13, Destiny Deetz 11, and Natalie Nix 10 for the Lady Cats.
