Dawson County’s Shawn Thomas (6,089 votes) took the most of the 15,443 total votes for Player of the Week, just holding off teammate Caleb Bonesteel (5,524). Still, BLITZ picked Bonesteel as Co-POW.
SHAWN THOMAS (FAN VOTE)
Shawn Thomas has won this award one other time this season, but this one probably means more because of what was at stake. In the opening round of the 3A state playoffs, #3-seed Dawson shocked #2 Westminster on their own field. Thomas rushed for 100 yards and a pair of TD in the 27-3 win to propel the Tigers into the Sweet 16.
The win over Westminster was Dawson’s first-ever win of any kind over a ranked opponent within the same classification. It was the perfect time for such an upset.

CALEB BONESTEEL (BLITZ PICK)
A bit unconventional, but we really like the kicker here. He’s long been one of the best in the state, and showed why in the win over Westminster. In fact, the junior all-state kicker converted a 32- and 38-yard field goal, and knocked through each of his 3 point after tries. That gave him a total of 9 points in the win.
Bonesteel has had a spectacular season, making good on 12-of-15 field goal attempts, including a long of 52, and is 49-for-50 on extra point attempts, giving him 85 points on the season, which leads the entire state.
