Week 11 saw most of our local teams on the road. Some like Habersham, Banks, Stephens, and White County played in MUST win games. Let’s see how everyone fared:
Winder-Barrow 41, Habersham Central 40
Of all things, Habersham was unraveled by missed extra points (3 of them) and two fumbles. The Raiders had at least a share of the lead in every quarter, including a quick 13-0 lead. Ryte Woodruff led the way with 5 total TD (4 rushing, 1 passing), and scored a potential game-tying TD with 53 seconds left…but the extra point failed, thus ending playoff hopes for the Raiders.
#3 Jefferson 55, Jackson County 0
Colby Clark and company didn’t have to play much. Clark scored on the opening drive, then connected with Jordan Perry for a TD pass later in the first quarter. Kade McNally rushed for a score in the second, while Kadin Bailey recorded a pick six. It was 34-0 at the break, and McNally’s third quarter TD (32 yards) made it 41-0 before Rem Maxwell got the Dragons another pick six. Jefferson (8-1) finishes its regular season, as it has a bye week next week to gear up for the playoffs.
Monticello 28, Banks County 0
The Leopards were shut out at home, ending any chance at playoff hopes.
#2 Rabun County 49, Oglethorpe 0
Gunner Stockton recorded his third career 6-passing TD game, with 4 coming in the first quarter. He passed for 231 yards and 6 TD, while Braxton Hicks recorded 120 receiving yards on 6 catches, including 3 TD. Rabun scored on its first four possessions (all in the first). It was 35-0 at the break, and the starters were out early in the third. Hicks’ big game also took him over 3,000 career receiving yards, good for moving inside the top 10!
#7 Union County 41, Social Circle 6
The Panthers cruised to a win over Social Circle. Jonah Daniel scored the first points on a 19-yd TD, then Pierson Allison connected on a 78-yd TD pass to Cayden Rich. Daniel added a 13-yd TD, and Allison found Mason McCombs for a 25-yd TD to make it 27-0 in the first. Sloan Sutton made it 34-zip in the second with a 2-yd run, and Daniel’s third TD of the night (49 yds) made it 41-0. Social Circle scored its only points before the half, and neither team lit up the board in the running second half.
#10 Dawson County 52, Cherokee Bluff 9
Zach Holtzclaw continued his electric sophomore season. He opened the game with a TD pass to Dakohta Sonnichsen (62 yds), then rushed one in early. Another TD pass to Jaden Gibson made it 24-3, and Shawn Thomas notched an 80-yd TD run to balloon the lead to 31-3. Holtzclaw’s second TD run made it 45-3, giving him 4 total scores. Sonnichsen had 2 TD catches.
#6 Commerce 52, Riverside 21
Despite an early 7-0 deficit, Commerce used Josh Frates and Nate Ray scoring runs to take a 14-7 lead after one. Frates and Ray both scored again in the second, as did Daniel Wilson and it was 38-7 at the half.
White County 34, Chestatee 14
The Warriors again got off to a hot start, with J Ben Haynes scoring on a 5-yd TD run. Chestatee’s dual threat Christian Charles knotted it up just before the end of the first, but Riley Stancil’s 6-yd TD returned the lead to White County. Haynes’ 12-yd TD in the second made it 21-7 going into the half. Haynes’ TD pass of 8 yards to Stancil made it 28-7 late in the third before Charles struck again with his second rushing score. In the final seconds of the game, Haynes scored a 6-yd TD to cap the scoring and put the game on ice.
Madison County 35, Stephens County 33
The Indians nearly got back in the win column for the first time since Week 1, but fell 35-33 to Madison County with a playoff trip on the line. Remarkably, a win next week still could get Stephens into the bracket.
Fannin County 35, Lumpkin County 14
After going down 14-0, Tucker Kirk got a trick play TD catch to cut the deficit in half. Fannin went up 28-7 by halftime, and led 35-7 until a TD pass for the Indians in the fourth made it 35-14, the final.
