Crystal Ball: Week 9 BLITZ Predictions

Aside from a shocking result last week and another that could have gone either way, we are hitting on 84% of our picks this season. This week presents a good number of easy picks, but still some with state-ranked opponents making it a tough selection.

DISCLAIMER: We dissect the numbers, check against other projections, utilize the brain and not the heart. If we pick against any of our beloved 11 programs, take it as a diss if you want, or use it as motivation. We obviously would love to see all 11 programs win every single game, so we’ll celebrate even if we’re wrong if it means our locals walk away as winners.

THE LOCALS

Banks County vs #8 Union County

Union leads the state in scoring. That’s not great news for Banks, who has as good a defense as the Leopards have had in many years. However, this type of offense you would have to outscore in a track meet. WE PICK UNION.

White County vs West Hall

The Warriors got a well-earned bye week after a gauntlet of facing Marist and Flowery Brach. Denmark and Blessed Trinity still loom ahead, but White County MUST win this game first against West Hall. We think J Ben Haynes goes off for 250-plus yards with the arm and legs with four-plus TDs…just a feeling. WE PICK WHITE.

#2 Rabun County @ Elbert County

Rabun continues to get even more cohesive with each passing week. Once upon a time, this matchup helped shape the region. It still does in some ways, but Elbert is now the Elbert we’ve seen the past 2-3 years. It’s at the Granite Bowl. WE PICK RABUN.

#4 Jefferson @ Morgan County

The Dragons are coming off a monumental win, and taking on Morgan County on the road. This one’s easy. WE PICK JEFFERSON.

Stephens County @ #8 Oconee County

Stephens County is FRESH after two straight bye weeks to recover from a tough non-region slate. Oconee County won’t be easy though, especially on the road. WE PICK OCONEE.

Lumpkin County @ #3 GAC

The Indians dropped a tough one to Cherokee Bluff at home last week. Now the journey in the Atlanta area to face powerhouse GAC. WE PICK GAC.

#4 Commerce vs #10 Hebron Christian

Making us pick on this one is NOT FAIR. It’s a ridiculously tough matchup, but we’ll go with our Tigers. WE PICK COMMERCE.

THE OTHERS

Predicted winners are in bold

#1 Buford vs Loganville
#7 Denmark vs #1 Marist
Cherokee Bluff vs East Hall
Riverside vs Lakeview
#5 Flowery Branch @ #4 Blessed Trinity
Johnson @ Cedar Shoals
North Hall @ Fannin County
