Tigers pounce on Lakeview early and often [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]

The Commerce Tigers had not lost to Lakeview in seven meetings coming in, nor had they won by any less than 27 points. Those trends continued with a 47-7 win for #5-ranked Commerce (5-1) in Gainesville.
The home Lions (0-5) couldn’t get anything going throughout the game, falling to 0-5, and subsequently 0-2 in region play. Lakeview turned the ball over a handful of times in the first half, giving Commerce short fields on nearly every drive.
The first score came with 5:23 to go in the first, when Nate Ray scored from 9 yards out. A few minutes later, after recovering a fumble, it was Tyelon Brock who found pay dirt from 10 yards out. Brock scored again early in the second quarter on a 24-yard scamper to push the lead to 21-0.
Commerce scored three more times in the quarter, with touchdown runs of 3 yards by Gray Holbrook, and 8-yard TD runs by Samuel Roach and Dreylan Martin as the Tigers held a commanding 41-0 lead at the break. Landon Bunn added a TD in the second half as the game featured a running clock.
Commerce came into the matchup with an offense that put up 41 points per game and a defense that allowed 17.4 per contest. The Tigers matched their offensive average in the first half alone, and bested their defensive average by a comfortable margin.
