The 2019 regular season and region tournaments are officially in the books. Now, many local programs make their preseason dreams a reality as the GHSA State Playoff brackets are set. Teams with home series to open are: Banks, Jefferson, Union, and Lumpkin (and likely Commerce). Of our 11 local programs, 8 are in the playoffs. White County, Towns County (unlikely) and Dawson County were held out this year.
The Lady Raiders (11-11) took the #4 spot out of the ever-tough Region 8-AAAAAA. This marks the first time since 2013 that Habersham has made the postseason, doing it under first year head coach Bill Bradley.
RND 1: @ #1 Creekview // OCT 8-9
The Lady Indians (13-12) made it back to the playoffs for a fourth straight season. The girls earned the #3 spot out of 8-AAAA.
RND 1: @ #2 Lafayette // OCT 8-9
The Lady Indians (16-11) finished the season strong, earning the runner-up position out of 7-AAA, thus stapling down a home playoff series for the second year in a row. This marks four straight seasons of playoff ball, and 7 of the last 8.
RND 1: vs #3 Westminster // OCT 9-10
The Lady Dragons (21-8) were the runner-up out of of 8-AAA, earning a playoff home series.
RND 1: vs #3 Sonoraville // OCT 9-10
The high-flying Lady Leopards (24-3) are back at their same old tricks, earning the 8-AA title outright. That guarantees first round and second at home before the Elite 8. This is 7 out of the last 8 years going to the playoffs, and three years in a row looking to make it to Columbus.
RND 1: vs #4 KIPP // OCT 8-9
The 8-AA runner-up Lady Panthers (13-13) almost beat top-ranked Banks County in the tournament championship game. Union takes the #2 seed from region, meaning they’ll play the first series at home.
RND 1: vs #3 Therrell // OCT 8-9
What a tremendous turnaround for a team that only won 3 games last year, and zero the year prior. These girls (11-7) earned the #3 seed from the tough 8-AA.
RND 1: @ #2 S Atlanta // OCT 8-9
The Lady Tigers (19-7) are a shoe-in, but their seeding via the Power Ratings are not released at this time.
