Senior receiver Sam Adams has been having an electric 2019, and it’s finally seen him earn the award he’s been knocking on the door of for some time now. Adams set career-highs of 9 passes caught for 119 yards and 4 TD. The 100-yard effort is the first of his career.

Entering his 2018 junior year, he had spent time on defense and a tad at quarterback in his 2017 sophomore season (76 pass yds, 1 TD). He was called on last year to be a receiver, and tallied 233 yards and 3 TD on 19 receptions. This year, he’s taken leaps and bounds. At the regular season’s midway point, Adams has 22 catches for 334 yards and 8 TD. His recent performance came in a region 49-20 win over Monticello. This is Adams’ first Player of the Week award.

Gunner Stockton could win this award every week, but there’s a reason this time he stood out even more than usual. Even GHSF Daily awarded Stockton one of Week 6’s Top 5 Performance across the entire state. Stockton completed 84% of his pass attempts, going 21-for-25 for 327 yards. That included 5 TD passes, marking the 3rd time in his brief career he has accomplished the feat. He also tallied 50 rushing yards and 2 TD, giving him his 3rd-ever 7 TD performance.

This season, Stockton, who typically doesn’t even play in the 4th quarter, has thrown for 1,243 yards and 16 TD against 3 interceptions. The sophomore 5-star recruit has completed just shy of 70% of his pass attempts, holding a QB rating of 132.9 for the #2-ranked Wildcats. Stockton also has 475 rushing yards on 55 carries (8.6/carry) with 7 more TDs. That brings his career numbers to 4,160 passing yards for 50 TD with 67% completion percentage, adding 1,184 rushing yards and another 24 scores. That’s a grand total of 5,344 yards and 74 TDs in just a season and a half.

This marks Stockton’s second POW award this season and 6th of his career, making him one of BLITZ’s most decorated players with 7 awards (reigning Football Player of the Year).
