Week 6 (Midway Point) Power Rankings

We still have two teams without blemish — Rabun County and Union County. They are two of the 5 among our local programs that are state ranked. Rabun (#2), Commerce (#4), Jefferson (#8), Dawson (#10), and Union (#10) all won in Week 6 to remain in order in the top 5. Believe it or not, this marks the MIDWAY POINT of the regular season.

#1 RABUN COUNTY WILDCATS
LAST RANKING: #1
RECORD: 5-0 (2-0)
WEEK 6: W 49-20 @ Monticello
NEXT: vs Banks County
#2-ranked Rabun County continued its unbeaten campaign with a blowout 49-20 win on the road at Monticello. We’ve seen this movie before. Rabun and Union (below) are heading for a defacto Region Title game in the final week of the regular season. Both should go undefeated into that game, and state-ranked. Shoutout to Sam Adams, who’s been steadily becoming another reliable target for Gunner Stockton. Adams caught 4 TD passes in the Week 6 win.

#2 UNION COUNTY PANTHERS
LAST RANKING: #2
RECORD: 5-0 (2-0)
WEEK 6: W 74-57 @ Putnam County
NEXT: vs Elbert County
The Panthers continue their dominance with a road region win over Putnam. Union County, ranked #10 in the state, features Pierson Allison, Jonah Daniel, Sawyer Drake, and Kyle Morlock all as state leaders in the top 3 offensive categories (passing, rushing, receiving). That should hold true. However, there’s some things to figure out before the Elbert game, as Putnam hung in for far too long, and put up way too many points on this Panthers defense.

#3 JEFFERSON DRAGONS
LAST RANKING: #3
RECORD: 3-1 (1-0)
WEEK 6: W 70-6 @ East Jackson
NEXT: vs Franklin County
Jefferson, ranked #8 in Class 3A, bulldozed past East Jackson in Week 6. The Dragons have their tougher region opponents looming ahead, but it’s clear this team is VERY DEEP!
#4 COMMERCE TIGERS
LAST RANKING: #4
RECORD: 4-1 (2-0)
WEEK 6: W 42-14 vs Madison County
NEXT: Bye
The Tigers faced a big test with Madison County, but stood their ground at home. Despite being 3 point favorites, Commerce pulled away in the fourth quarter. Commerce, ranked #4 in the state in 1A Public, now faces all region opponents from here on out, but a much-deserved bye week is on tap.

#5 DAWSON COUNTY TIGERS
LAST RANKING: #5
RECORD: 4-1 (1-0)
WEEK 6: W 45-0 @ Lumpkin County
NEXT: vs East Hall
The #10-ranked Tigers bounced back from their first loss with a runaway win over rivals Lumpkin County. Dawson County gets the first region win out of the way, but the toughest ones will be North Hall and GAC.
#6 HABERSHAM CENTRAL RAIDERS
LAST RANKING: #6
RECORD: 3-2 (0-0)
WEEK 6: W 34-19 @ Franklin County
NEXT: vs Lanier
The Raiders rode momentum into the Franklin County game, which was originally scheduled for a couple weeks prior. Habersham is now midway through the slate, and every game now is pivotal in a tough region.

#7 WHITE COUNTY WARRIORS
LAST RANKING: #7
RECORD: 3-2 (0-1)
WEEK 6: L 20-35 @ #1 Marist
NEXT: @ #5 Flowery Branch
White County gave a valiant effort against #1-ranked Marist, but to no avail. This puts the Warriors in a quick 0-1 hole in region play, but there are more challenges ahead with Blessed Trinity, Flowery Branch, and Denmark (all state-ranked). It’s a crowded region, and don’t forget Chestatee and the elusive Christian Charles.
#8 BANKS COUNTY LEOPARDS
LAST RANKING: #8
RECORD: 3-2 (2-0)
WEEK 6: W 49-14 @ Social Circle
NEXT: @ #2 Rabun County
Banks County grabbed a key region win to move to 2-0 when earning a victory at Oglethorpe. This is huge for the Leopards, who need to pile up those region wins for later down the stretch.

#9 STEPHENS COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #9
RECORD: 1-5 (0-0)
WEEK 6: L 7-36 @ Cedar Shoals
NEXT: Bye
The Indians have played more than anybody. Now they’ll get a back-to-back bye week before gearing up for region play. It makes for a very tough couple of weeks to ponder the 5 consecutive losses.

#10 LUMPKIN COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #10
RECORD: 1-4 (0-1)
WEEK 6: L 0-45 vs #10 Dawson County
NEXT: Bye
Lumpkin dropped a 6th straight to rivals Dawson County, going to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in region. The Indians will look to rebound in Week 8 after a bye week.
#11 TOWNS COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #11
RECORD: 0-5 (0-2)
WEEK 6: L 6-77 @ #1 Athens Academy
NEXT: vs Riverside
The Indians faced a 2nd straight state-ranked team, this time #1-ranked Athens Academy. Towns County still seeks win number one.
