Habersham Central’s Joshua Pickett (Fan Vote) and Union County’s Pierson Allison (BLITZ Pick) were named Football Players of the Week following dazzling Week 5 performances. Pickett (7,010 votes) took the majority of the 23,435 total votes, outlasting the next two closest, Elijah Burns (4,387) and Jonah Daniel (4,100).

Joshua Pickett receives (pun intended) his first Player of the Week award after a big-time performance against Habersham’s arch rivals. The junior receiver/safety was ALL OVER the field. Initial looks at his stats don’t do justice. He caught 3 passes for 41 yards. One of those catches was sensational, and was a TD from Ryte Woodruff on the opening drive to put the Raiders ahead for good. His 2-point conversion reception was clutch in a pressure situation. On defense, he was even better.

Pickett racked up 14 tackles (1 for loss), recovered a fumble, and broke up a pair of passes. Pickett’s 2019 stats includes team-highs of 22 receptions, 361 yards, and 4 TD. He has 26 total points (4 TDs, 1 2PC catch; also a 2PC pass). Pickett has 392 all-purpose yards (15 rush, 361 receiving, 16 punt return), and on defense he has 30 tackles (2 for loss). On that side of the ball, the junior has deflected 3 passes, broken up 3, and recovered a fumble.

No matter the opponent, Pierson Allison did something only a handful of high school players have ever done. He slung the ball around the yard for 490 yards, connecting for 4 TD. That yardage puts him in the top 25 in single-game all-time in the state of Georgia.

He did so on 26-for-32 passing (81%), and the total included a 69-yard TD pass, his longest of the season. He added 44 rushing yards on 4 carries (11 YPC) with another TD. So far this season, Allison has thrown for 1,127 and rushed for 173, with 15 total TD (12 passing). More importantly, he has yet to throw an interception.

In his career as a two-year starting QB, Allison has thrown for a grand total of 4,263 yards and 40 TD against 5 interceptions. He has 932 career rushing yards with 13 TD. This is Allison’s fifth Player of the Week award in his career, and first this season.
