Receiver McCombs, QB Haynes named Player of the Week
Union County’s Mason McCombs (Fan Vote) and White County’s J Ben Haynes (BLITZ Pick) were named Football Players of the Week following stellar performances in Week 4. McCombs (8,556 votes) took the majority of the 19,689 total votes, outlasting second-place finisher Sam Adams (6,948).
MASON MCCOMBS (FAN VOTE)
Mason McCombs has emerged as a viable option for Union QB Pierson Allison. Usually it’s Sawyer Drake and Kyle Morlock taking most of the passes for the high-tempo Panthers’ offense. But McCombs is making a name for himself as a junior, especially after a great Week 4 in a big win for Union.
The wideout hauled in four passes for 101 yards and a TD, his second of the season. All three categories were career-bests for McCombs. On the season, he has 9 catches for 161 yards and 2 TD. He also handles the kicking duties, and has so far recorded 5 touchbacks on 20 kickoffs for 996 yards. He is also 13-for-13 in PATs. This is McCombs’ first Player of the Week award.

Quarterback J Ben Haynes has been better than ever this season. Almost a third of the way through the regular season, and he’s well on pace to crush his career-bests from what were pretty good freshman and sophomore seasons. This year, especially after a 27-20 win over Pickens in Week 4, Haynes has begun to rack up the stats.
He did throw 3 interceptions in the Pickens game, but completed 16-of-26 passes (62%) for 235 yards and 2 TD. He added 128 yards on the ground with 2 more touchdowns, including a 49-yard TD run to put White County ahead for good. On the 2019 season, Haynes has completed 50-of-81 passes (62%) for 688 yards and 4 TD against the 3 INTs. The dual threat has a total of 260 yards and 6 TD rushing. This is Haynes’ first Player of the Week award.
