Game of the Week Preview: Habersham vs White

SBT Team online ad FOOTBALL

The BLITZ Game of the Week pits next door neighbors, Habersham Central and White County, against each other in a non-region affair in Mt. Airy.

The Raiders have opened the season 0-2 after having second half leads dissipate at Dawson County in Week 1 and versus Madison County in Week 2. Will Habersham take out its frustrations on White County? So far, Ryte Woodruff has been good as the starting QB, but will have to make better decisions than he did in Week 2 (two interceptions). Patrick Tedder is a player to watch after a dynamic game against Madison County.

The Warriors couldn’t have asked for a better start. Everyone is pretty much healthy, J Ben Haynes has really grown up, and Zion McMullen looks like the real deal. This team gelled together very well in the season-opening blowout win over Lumpkin County. This game provides more a litmus test to see exactly where this team is at.

This one is tough to call. Why? Because while White County looked incredible in Week 2, and Habersham Central didn’t. However, the Raiders looked fairly good in Week 1 against Dawson, and White County hasn’t been tested as heavily just yet. So, you make our pick for us. FINAL VERDICT: FAN VOTE

While these two programs reach back as early as 1990, the matchup has only been seen a grand total of 9 times, this year making its 10th viewing. Habersham won the first 4 meetings pretty handedly in 1990, 91, 98, and 99. White County took the next one in 2012 by a 31-0 score, and took the 2013 version 35-14. Since Benji Harrison’s arrival to Habersham Central, the Raiders have split the last two (lost in 2017, won in 2018) in both cases being pretty good games. Will Habersham make it 3 of the last 4, or will the Warriors make it 4 of the last 6? Below are three of the more recent meetings that BLITZ was there to capture.
