Jefferson, Stephens suffer heartbreaking losses, Commerce sweeps into next round
Three local teams played for the right to advance in the state tournament on Thursday. For Jefferson and Stephens, game three losses proved to be the end of the road. For Commerce, the season rolls on to the next round.
Stephens Co Indians 1, LaGrange 2
The Indians (19-13-1) staved off elimination with a game two win on Wednesday night, and on Thursday tried again, but fell 5-3 in the rubber match game. Stephens County ends its season.
Jefferson Dragons 1, Westminster 2
Jefferson (25-3) had a little bit of scare with a game one loss in the series, but the #1-ranked team in the state came back for a huge win Wednesday night to force Thursday evening. The Dragons were stunned by Westminster’s 5-4 win, however, to provide the most shocking loss in the entire state.
Commerce Tigers 2, Crawford Co 0
Commerce (19-10) took care of business swiftly over Crawford County, taking game one 11-2, and 20-2 in the second game to advance to the second round, where the slate is against Pelham.
