Kenney, Williams, Quintal & Diaz all named Soccer POWs
Four local soccer stars were named Players of the Week after outstanding efforts in a handful of games. For three of them, it marked their second such honor in their career. The top vote-getter overall was White County’s Alexis Williams (5,600 votes), and the top boys’ player was Jefferson’s Roberto Quintal (3,956). There were 14,138 total votes. BLITZ then picked Lumpkin’s Hope Kenney and Rabun’s Tito Diaz as co-Players of the Week.
ALEXIS WILLIAMS – FAN VOTE
Alexis Williams had a phenomenal 3-game stretch for the Lady Warriors, who earned a hard-fought playoff spot in Class 4A. The junior midfielder notched 5 assists.
This is her first Player of the Week Award.
ROBERTO QUINTAL – FAN VOTE
Roberto Quintal has been so good this season for the Region Champs, Jefferson Dragons. The junior forward earns his second Player of the Week Award after tallying 7 goals in the last 4 games prior to the state playoffs.
HOPE KENNEY – BLITZ PICK
For Hope Kenney, last week was historic. The junior forward set a school record when she found the back of the net for the 33rd time this season, surpassing the previous mark set by Lumpkin great Alexis Satterfield.
Kenney earns her second POW Award this season, and now has 33 goals and 8 assists on the year. If she continues to play this way next season, she should also hold the career goals mark when it’s all said and done.
TITO DIAZ – BLITZ PICK
Tito Diaz has done a lot to lift the Rabun County Wildcats to a playoff berth and a 6-2 record. The senior forward earns his second career BLITZ Player of the Week Award after going for 8 goals and 2 assists across his last 3 games.
For the season, the Cats’ star has 20 goals and 2 assists.
