Dawson County and Stephens County both played in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night, and it was the Tigers who came through with an historic victory to march into the quarterfinals. The Towns County girls also fell in Thursday action.
DAWSON COUNTY TIGERS
The Tigers (26-4) had ten guys score in double figures in a lopsided 62-40 win, punching their ticket to the 3A Quarterfinals. Luke Chism led with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Eli Burruss added 9 points and 5 boards, while Jasper Gibson tallied 8 points and 5 assists in the complete team effort.
Dawson takes on Franklin County, an At Large team who edged Central, Macon in the first round, and narrowly beat Beach in the Sweet 16. The Tigers will have home court for the final time this season.
STEPHENS COUNTY INDIANS
The Indians (17-12) fell in a heartbreaker in overtime to #1-seed Denmark, 63-58. Ty Nails closed his career with 1,700 career points, including 25 points and 8 rebounds in his final game. Takias Nails had 15 points as well. The Stephens County senior class of 2019 recorded 75 wins.
TOWNS COUNTY LADY INDIANS
The Lady Indians (14-13) closed their season in the Sweet 16 with a 52-31 loss to #3-seed Calhoun.
