After nearly 21,153 votes for Player of the Week, the top boy and top girl were each named BLITZ Players of the Week. BLITZ then chose one other boy and girl as a POW winner. It was Rabun County’s Brooke Henricks (6,151 votes) who won the overall vote, edging Banks County’s Jaycie Bowen (5,146). The top vote-getter for the boys was Banks’ Carl Cleveland (1,832). Both won Player of the Week, and BLITZ named Bowen and Dawson’s Jasper Gibson as well.
Senior guard Brooke Henricks has continued to stay red hot. She was named Player of the Week for the second week in a row, after a 20-point performance in a key region win over Union County.
Jaycie Bowen has been stellar as usual this season. She earns her first Player of the Week award in basketball, but third overall this year (two in softball). Bowen now has five career POW awards, as well as a Player of the Year award (2018 Softball).
This past week, Bowen averaged 13.3 points per game over the past three contests. She had 11 against Union, 13 against Oglethorpe, and 16 against Elbert. The Lady Leopards are ranked inside the top ten in Class 2A and are 14-3 overall.
Carl Cleveland’s stat-packed season continues. He earns his third such award this season and fourth of his career. In the past three games, the junior has averaged 25 points, 8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 3 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. On the season, he averages 29 points, 10 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1 block per game. He has tallied 10 double-doubles, including a triple-double this season.
The Dawson County junior reached 1,000 career points earlier this season, and continues to put up more. His last three games have been ridiculous, including a 30-point outburst against East Hall and a 34-point game two games prior. In the last three contests, Gibson is averaging 27.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3.7 steals.
