A trio of local players earned Player of the Week awards on Friday following outstanding weeks. Sophomores Dasha Cannon (White) and Kennedi Henson (Towns), as well as junior Jasper Gibson (Dawson) all earned the awards. Cannon won the public Fan Vote, garnering 6,255 votes (41%) of the total 15,171 votes.
Dasha Cannon is not new to the scene. She balled out as a freshman in 2017-18 and was a Player of the Year candidate with over 13 points, 5 boards and 4 assists per game. This year, she continues to improve.
The sophomore guard has averaged 15.3 points per contest over her last three, helping the Lady Warriors to a 3-3 mark. She had 11 points in a loss to Blessed Trinity, 22 points in a double-overtime win against North Gwinnett, and 13 more in a loss to Lumpkin.
Jasper Gibson moved over from Jefferson prior to his junior season, and he’s been paying dividends to the Tigers immediately. After averaging over 18 points per game for Jefferson last year, he’s bringing that talent to Dawsonville.
In his last three games, he has dropped 13, 29, and 28 points, which rounds out to 23 points per game to go with 5 rebounds and 6 assists on average. He has three 20-point efforts so far this season, and recently notched his 1,000th career point just a handful of games into his junior year.
In a win over Fannin, Gibson went for 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. He had 29 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists the game prior against Banks County. In the game before that, against Flowery Branch, the guard had 28 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Towns County’s sophomore guard has been money the last two games. Kennedi Henson, a two-time Player of the Week (once in softball) has averaged 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals over the last two games.
In those contests, she’s also drained 9 3-pointers. She scored 23 in one game and 25 in the next.
