The 8-AA Region meet on a cold and wet Thursday ended in familiar fashion, as the Banks County squads earned the top podium spot. The Leopards, who are defending Class 2A Champions, won by a slight edge over Union County by a single point.
The girls side featured a landslide win for Banks, ahead of Union County and Rabun placing third. Rabun’s Guy Gober won the individual region title on the boys side, while Union’s Zoe Sanchez won the girls’ title.
Banks County won the meet with 32 points, led by junior Destinie Martin (21:31) who finished as the region runner-up. Union’s Sanchez (19:56) finished nearly two minutes ahead of Martin for an easy region title. Union finished in second place, but secured a state appearance.
Banks County’s Anna Parker (22:07) came in fourth, while Union’s Sadie Underwood (22:19) was fifth. Rabun’s (third place overall) top individual was Hanna Cannon (22:21), coming in seventh. The Lady Leopards also placed Jenna Reeves (22:58) 8th and Emily Adams (23:12) 10th in the top ten.
The Leopards scored a 42 to edge Union’s 43, with Griffin Stephens leading the Banks team with a region runner-up finish (16:58). Rabun County’s Gober (16:53) won yet another region title. Union’s Luke Grambell (17:37) came in third.
Banks County’s Wes Ledford (17:43) was fourth, while Buck Ledford (17:58) was sixth. Union County also placed the 8th through 10th individuals in Hunter Hartzog (18:02), Steven Seiler (18:15) and Malachi Patrick (18:40).
With the boys and girls results, both Banks squads and both Union squads advance to state, as do the Rabun County girls. Rabun boys will be represented by region champion Guy Gober.
