Towns’ Bradshaw, Dawson’s Clark win Player of the Week honors
With over 7,500 votes recorded from the public in just 24 hours, the overwhelming favorite for the FAN VOTE Football Player of the Week was Towns County’s Trent Bradshaw. The BLITZ pick after the voting was complete was Dawson County’s Sevaughn Clark. Both were very deserving, as are the other five who didn’t get selected this time around.
FAN VOTE – TRENT BRADSHAW
The senior quarterback for Towns County hit the ground running in 2018, quite literally. He tallied five total touchdowns in a dominant win over Hayesville (NC). The win streak for the Indians reached three against its neighboring rivals.
Bradshaw collected 118 passing yards and two touchdowns, both delivered to fellow senior Will Travis. He also picked up 181 yards on the ground with three more scores. Not a bad start to the season.
BLITZ PICK – SEVAUGHN CLARK
The all-state running back moved into the QB role this season for Dawson County, and it’s already paying dividends. With a very similar transfer running back Ahmad Kamara set to put up numbers that Clark did last season, it gives Dawson a huge one-two punch in the backfield. Clark gets the ball every snap, which of course makes him more dangerous than he was last year.
Through one game, it appears he won’t need to throw often, but he was efficient when he had to, collecting 77 passing yards on just six completions. On the ground he had over 200 yards gained, and after factoring in the lost yardage, netted 187 yards and three touchdowns.
His best was the last carry in the win over Habersham Central. While facing 4th & 2 from the 5 and down 28-25, the field goal team came out for the tie. A Raiders’ timeout gave Clark and head coach Sid Maxwell time to think, and you have to believe that the two of them probably discussed together and felt good about what happened next. Clark and the offense came back out, and with no hesitation he took the snap, tucked and darted right up the gut to the end zone for the win with 53 seconds left.
