While many of our local programs have been exceptional in the past decade, the GACA (Georgia Athletic Coaches Association) named ten teams per classification as All-Century teams based on total wins since the year 2000. The teams were placed in their current classification, even if their wins came in other classifications along the way.
Jefferson made the list at number five in Class 3A, despite playing in 4A the past couple of seasons. The Dragons have played in 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A since 2000, and have collected 153 wins to 61 losses and one tie. In that time, Jefferson has five region championships (’08, ’09, ’12, ’14, ’16) and one state championship (2012). The Dragons have made the playoffs in 17 of the past 18 seasons.
Stephens County also made the cut as the sixth most wins among 4A schools since the turn of the millennium, going 150-58. The Indians played in 3A from 1980-2011 before moving up to 4A. Stephens has won four region championships since 2000 (’03, ’05, ’06, ’07) and have made the state playoffs in 16 of the past 18 seasons.
Commerce shockingly wasn’t among the top-10 in Class 1A, but it was close to the cut by just a single game. Since 2000, arguably the state’s most historic football program has won 140 games (600 exactly all-time wins). The Tigers have won three region titles since 2000 (’00, ’03, ’14) with one state championship in that 2000 season. Commerce has continued to be a powerhouse, making the state playoffs 21 straight seasons to date.
