Former Raider McCoy finishes third in recent tournament with 21-under score
Former Habersham Central Raiders state champion golfer Lee McCoy continues to find success at the professional level. The 24-year-old closed July with a 21-under third place finish at the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.
McCoy’s winnings for the event was $32,400, bringing his 2018 total to $60,462 in the Web.com tour. He’s played in 21 events this year, notching one top-ten and three top-25 finishes. He’s made the cut in eight out of his 21 events.
McCoy made national headlines back in 2014 when he bested the world’s number one golfer (Jordan Spieth) in the Valspar Championship in 2016. McCoy wasn’t able to collect the winnings in that tournament at the time, as documented in our story at the time.
The former 4A State Champion back in 2012, McCoy went on to a very successful career at the University of Georgia, leaving as one of the top golfers in UGA history.
McCoy played in a number of PGA Tour Canada (Mackenzie Tour) events in 2017, as well as three PGA tour events that year, making the cut in all of them.
Here’s a breakdown of McCoy’s professional career to date, which brings his career earnings to $175,180 with one victory, 5 top-10’s, 9 top-25’s and making 22 cuts in 45 events.
