Both Rabun County and Commerce were able to punch at ticket to the Sweet 16 in their respective classifications. Here’s a brief look at both series, which will be played on the road. NOTE: Due to the legal injunction against GHSA, the Commerce series won’t begin as originally scheduled today. The series will begin when the halt is over.
Class 2A – May 3-4
#3 Rabun County @ #1 Callaway
Records: Rabun County Wildcats (12-16); Callaway (22-9)
Matchup: The Cats powered through Rockmart with stellar pitching from Grayson Lane and Chase Horton. Callaway is the #7-ranked team in the state in Class 2A, but it can be beat. Rabun needs to use its momentum and have Lane and Horton once again lead the way.
Class 1A – TBA
#10 Commerce @ #7 Emmanuel County Institute
Records: Commerce Tigers (19-11); ECI (15-9)
Matchup: The Tigers had no problems with Wheeler County, outscoring them 33-7 in a two-game sweep to advance. ECI didn’t play at all, instead earning a first round bye. That might help Commerce, who clearly has momentum and in full swing (no pun intended), while ECI has had to sit for quite awhile.
