Habersham Central senior Jarred Jones is in one of those zones players often talk about but rarely get to enjoy. In the last two games, very critical ones that determine the fate of the Raiders baseball team, he has blasted three homeruns and driven in seven.
For the season, Jones is hitting .333 with six homeruns to go with 16 RBI, 31 runs scored, 19 stolen bases, three doubles and two triples. The lefty is a Southern Wesleyan University signee and has an OBP of .520.
Jones’ power was on full display on Wednesday, April 18, when he launched a pair of homeruns against Dacula on senior night. In the final game of his career on the home field, Jones hit a game-tying solo shot over the right center wall in the second inning, and two innings later went opposite field with a two-run blast that proved to be the game-winner. Both homeruns were off a left-handed pitcher, who in most cases will win a lefty-lefty matchup. Jones added a double in the do-or-die win.
On April 16, he drove in four runs and tallied two hits, including his homer. In 2017, his junior season, Jones put up an impressive stat line of: .481 AVG, HR, 28 RBI, 22 R, 7 2B, 5 3B, 21 BB, .604 OBP, .728 SLG, as well as going 3-3 as a pitcher with a 6.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 30.2 IP, walking 18.
