Just a few months ago, Banks County named Chad Cheatham head football coach following the resignation of two-year head coach Josh Shoemaker.
In a surprising turn of events, Cheatham announced he is heading to take the same position at Fannin County High School. Cheatham is said to be a native of Fannin and had a chance to “go back home,” according to sources.
The Leopards will now re-open the search for a new head coach, looking for their 16th head coach in the history of the program, dating back to 1958.
Cheatham never officially coached a game, but nonetheless the Leopards will wind up naming their sixth head coach since 2010 (Blair Armstrong, Phillip Jones, Biff Parson, Josh Shoemaker, Chad Cheatham) and fourth in less than four years.
Banks County went 5-6 in 2017 under Shoemaker, making the state playoffs for the second straight season.
