Banks County swept past Rabun County Saturday night in Homer, with the #2 Lady Leopards sliding past #7 Rabun 62-43, while the #9 Leopards won 70-46.
LADY LEOPARDS 62, LADY WILDCATS 43
The Lady Leopards won a 62-43 slugfest over visiting Rabun County in a top-10 matchup. The win gave Banks County the second straight over the Lady Wildcats this season. The matchup lived up to its nature of being a physical game, and a 40-31 Banks lead going into the fourth quarter widened with a flurry of free throw opportunities.
Banks led 18-13 after the first quarter, and outscored the Lady Cats 13-11 in the second to enter the break up 31-24. However, Rabun County’s Georgia Stockton (game-high 19 pts) helped close the gap with a quick start to the third. However, the Lady Leopards pulled away in the final minutes, which seemingly took 15-20 minutes to complete.
The free throw opportunities were perplexing, with Banks County making 27 free throws in the second half to only 8 for the Lady Cats.
Banks County moves to 19-4 overall and 9-1 in region play, while Rabun goes to 17-5 and 5-4.
LEOPARDS 70, WILDCATS 46
The Leopards used three players’ double-doubles en route to a 70-46 region win over Rabun, moving to 19-4 overall and 8-2 in region play. The Wildcats are 4-18 and 3-6 in region contests.
Dylan Orr (17 pts, 13 reb), Carl Cleveland (17 pts, 10 reb) and Darius Bonds (16 pts, 10 ast) made it hard to stop Banks County, as the Leopards put on another dunk fest with slams by Orr (4 dunks) and Bonds.
The Cats hung with Rabun after one, trailing only 14-11 and pulling within a point on Tevan Dixon’s layup to open the second quarter. Banks then erupted for a 10-0 electrifying run, capped by a Bonds breakaway dunk and a free throw to finish the three-point play. A 37-20 halftime lead was more than enough for the Leopards to secure a 70-46 win at home.
