The Mid-Cycle Adjustments have been made, and there weren’t a lot of changes for programs across the state in moving classifications and/or regions, effective for 2018-19 prior to the next full re-classification.

Here is the official rundown of region alignments (only showing those affecting Northeast Georgia programs):

REGION 7-4A: Flowery Branch – moves down from 8-5A to 7-4A due to FBHS splitting to add new high school on Spouts Springs (Cherokee Bluff). Flowery Branch joins what was a five-team region with White County, West Hall, Chestatee, Marist, Blessed Trinity and new school, Denmark. Things just got tougher for our White County teams. Flowery Branch was denied in a request to move to Region 8-AAAA instead of 7-AAAA.

REGION 7-3A: Cherokee Bluff – brand new school joins crowded 7-AAA, which contains our very own Dawson County and Lumpkin County, while Union County moves back down to 8-AA, where it previously resided for years. Essentially, Cherokee Bluff takes Union’s place in the region, and North Hall, East Hall, Fannin County and GAC stay in the region as well.

REGION 8-3A: Jefferson – moves down into 8-AAA from 8-AAAA. The Dragons are no longer paired with our own Stephens County in 8-4A, but will now reside with Hart County, Jackson County, East Jackson, Franklin County, Monroe Area and Morgan County. Should be very competitive.

REGION 8-2A: Union County – returns from two year stay in 7-AAA. The Panthers have always been in 8-AA (at least for a LONG time), so they’re welcomed back. This reignites the rivalries with our very own Rabun County and Banks County programs, as well as Elbert County, Oglethorpe County, Monticello, Social Circle and Putnam County. The region just got a whole lot tighter.

  1. So why GHSA didn’t move White County back to 3A?? Crazy how GHSA does thing how they want to! After class of 2018 White County can move back to 3A. When their is Lumpkin County with more students in the school and gets to stay in 3A! BS is what I’m calling on this one!

    1. Who knows! They need to do two-year alignments and not every four years, and that would be more accurate and fair, we agree.
