How Sweet it is! The Lady Leopards, fresh off a Region 7-AAA Championship, and the Stephens County Lady Indians both advanced past the first round in their respectable GHSA State Tournament brackets.
Banks County (21-7) had to fend off a pesky Pepperell team who forced a decisive game three in the best-of-three series. The Lady Leopards won the opener 9-0 before dropping the second game on Wednesday 7-5. On Thursday, the girls rebounded with a 6-1 win to move on to the Sweet 16, where they’ll take on Calloway (a #3-seed from Region 5) in the Class 2A State Tournament.
Stephens County (18-7), playing in perhaps the toughest region in the state of Georgia in 8-AAAA, was a #3-seed playing on the road at Chestatee. A 5-0 and 3-2 sweep gave the Lady Indians a clear path to the Sweet 16, where they’ll now travel to Region 5-AAAA champions Chapel Hill.
Commerce (20-5) had already earned a bye into the Sweet 16, and will open play October 18. Both Banks and Stephens open their series also on October 18. FULL BRACKETS
