Through each full week of sports in the school year, we’ll recognize the Teams of the Week, brought to you by Cofield Outdoors!
Football – Franklin County Lions
Most teams would have cratered after a crushing defeat like Franklin County had at Stephens the week prior. That loss was close and snapped the 5-0 unbeaten mark, while also opening region play. Instead of wallowing in that, the Lions went back on the road against #10-ranked East Jackson, and obliterated them with a 34-7 victory. HUGE is an understatement. A great performance offensively and defensively showed this team still has everything going for them.

Softball – Jefferson Lady Dragons
Region Champions! The Lady Dragons (21-1) have now won 12 in a row – which is insane, and have outslugged the opposition 209-47 all season. Last week, Jefferson beat East Hall 12-0, then downed top-10 ranked Cherokee Bluff 7-4 on the road to claim the 8-AAA title outright. Jefferson is ranked #1 in the state.

Volleyball – Banks County Lady Leopards & Tallulah Falls Lady Indians
The Lady Leopards posted a win in their lone outing last week, a 3-1 victory against Lake Oconee Academy. They have won seven of their last eight matches in total, and Banks County holds a 21-11 overall mark. Also, the Lady Indians of Tallulah Falls won their Sweet 16 and Elite 8 match, entering the Final 4 for just the second time in program history. Overall, TFS has gone 26-8 and now has five straight wins.

Boys XC – Union County Panthers
The Panthers finished sixth among an intense field at the Mountain Invite at Unicoi State Park. Holden Payne was 12th, Ander Faulkner was 44th, and Noah Payne was 52nd.

Girls XC – Jefferson Lady Dragons, Dawson County Lady Tigers, and White County Lady Warriors
Yes, three girls teams share it. They all shined brightly at the prestigious Mountain Invite at Unicoi. Jefferson came in first, Dawson second, and White third. The Lady Dragons were paced by Lily Whitmire (7th) and Hannah Schroeder (10th). For Dawson, it was Hayden Hand (4th) and Addison Smith (22nd). White County was paced by Carly Black (2nd) and Julie Black (5th).
