The GHSA Team Dual Wrestling Championships took place this past weekend. Here are the results, highlighted by a State Championship for Jefferson.

COMMERCE – CLASS 1A

Commerce defeated St. Francis, 59-18 in the first round, and was edged out in the second round by Bremen, 39-29 in the Elite 8 round. That pushed the Tigers to the loser’s bracket. From there, they lost to Gordon Lee, 51-24.

DAWSON COUNTY – CLASS 3A

The Tigers lost to West Laurens, 42-29 in the opening round of 16. In the loser’s bracket, they beat Bainbridge 39-29, but fell next to Heritage, Catoosa, 44-35.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL – CLASS 5A

Hab Central fell to South Effingham, 54-15 before dropping a close contest to Dunwoody, 40-36.

JEFFERSON – CLASS 3A

The Dragons won the GHSA State Championship! Jefferson beat Dougherty 59-12 in the opening round, then won against Heritage, Catoosa 53-19 in similar fashion. The Dragons fired past Lumpkin County, 45-30, and had little resistance against Troup County, 55-15 to claim the State Championship.

LUMPKIN – CLASS 3A

The Indians had a valiant effort that resulted in a 3rd-place finish. It began with a 47-26 win over Upson-Lee and a 66-17 victory over Harlem. Lumpkin County fell to eventual Champions Jefferson, 45-30. In the loser’s bracket, the Indians beat Gilmer 38-35 and Heritage, Catoosa, 52-24 to claim a podium finish.

UNION – CLASS 2A

The Panthers lost 38-30 to Sonoraville in the first round, then earned a 71-20 victory against Glenn Hills. What followed was a 50-27 win over Morgan County, and 48-24 win against Coahulla Creek. A 40-35 final against Columbus got Union to the 3rd-place match, where they fell 59-18 to Cook.
