The Lady Indians return a handful of starters in coach Jo Kimbrel’s first season at the helm. With a standout like Breelyn Wood back to lead this group, it could be a special season for TFS.

PRESEASON INFO

2023-24 Record: 8-14; No Playoffs
Head Coach: Jo Kimbrel (1st Season)
Returning Starters: 4
Key Departures: Allie Phasavang, Adrijana Albijanic (Lawrence Univ)
Key Players: Breelyn Wood, Haygen James, Millie Holcomb, Asia Molodynska, Lia Sanjur, Marian Nino
“Last year Bree averaged 13.9 points and 7.5 rebounds a game, Haygen 8.8 pts and 6.6 reb, and Millie 5 reb a game, and Asia shot 58.8% from the FT line,” says Kimbrel. “Looking for big things from those girls, and junior Lia Sanjur and senior Marian Nino, who averaged 17 and 13.5 PPG during the JV season. I also see returning Sophomores Gracey Eller and LB Kafsky contributing to the team. Welcome newcomers to the team in Sofia Alderfer, Narissa Dawson, Payton McEntire, and Linda White.”
Offense: 4 out 1 in, or 5 out
Strengths: “Biggest strength is senior leadership,” states Kimbrel. “The seniors have stepped up their game not only on the court but in the weight room and communicating with their teammates. Also, the girls are buying into team motto of commit to the family.”
Biggest Challenges: “Helping the girls to realize that it’s how you end that counts not how it begins,” adds Kimbrel.

“I want the girls to truly leave it all on the court each time they play and to stay the entire season committed to the family,” she adds. “Our region is rather tough — Athens Christian (Final 4), George Walton (GIAA State Runner-Up), and Lakeview (State Champions). Pretty tough competition.”
