Lumpkin County’s historic 2023-24 year in athletics secured the school its first-ever BLITZ Cup Trophy. The Indians scored 236 points, slipping past reigning BLITZ Cup Champions Tallulah Falls (231 pts), Dawson County (230), and Jefferson (223).

Lumpkin County was in 2nd place behind Jefferson at the end of the fall season, and was first at the end of winter, just ahead of the Dragons. A strong spring stapled it down. Lumpkin’s historic season was led by the football team’s region title and Quarterfinals run, boys cross country state runner-up finish, a wrestling State Championship and subsequent runner-up (and girls 3rd), boys basketball Sweet 16, a track and field team claiming a pair of individual state championships, girls soccer making the Sweet 16, and the boys tennis team earning a State Runner-Up finish, as well as the rifle team placing 4th at state. Nearly every Lumpkin team made state aside from softball, girls basketball, both golf teams, and baseball. Still, the deep runs elsewhere gave LCHS enough points to win the BLITZ Cup.
