Big news comes in for White County, as coach Steve Shedd has decided to take the White County girls basketball head coaching position, leaving Banks County.

On Tuesday night, White County Board of Education approved the move. Shedd had been Banks County’s coach since the 2016-17 season, going 161-77 through last season. That includes a 2A State Runner-Up finish in the 202-23 season and Elite 8 runs in 2023-24 and 2017-18. He led the Lady Leopards to state playoff runs in each season, advancing to the Sweet 16 or further in all but two of them. Each season also had Banks County ranked inside the state top-10 at some point, peaking at #1 during the State Runner-Up season.

At White County, Shedd will take over a program that has been phenomenal for each of the last 7 seasons, each resulting in a state playoff run. Last year’s Elite 8 for White County was the first in decades, and star juniors Kylie Watkins and Emma Lightsey return, as does Mya Yeh among others. Shedd’s freshman daughter Ella Kate Shedd is a budding star as well.
