Under first-year head coach and Dawson alum Will Anglin, the Lady Tigers had a stellar season with 16 wins and an Elite 8 run for the first time since 2018-19. Dawson County returns several starters and has a chance to build off that and compete for a region title.

PRESEASON INFO

2022-23 Record: 16-15; State Elite 8; #8 State Ranking
Head Coach: Will Anglin (2nd Season)
Returning Starters: 4
Key Departures: Kirklyn Porter, Emmagrace McCarron, Calleigh Lamb
Key Players: Eva Bishop, Kinda Coker, Morgan Chester, Abby Slaton, Rielyn Talley, Heather Burt, Annay Ayers, Maddie Suita, Jaci Wilson, Ava Roberson
Offense: “We want to play inside out,” states Anglin. “Our bigs need to be a focal point, but guards like Kindra Coker and Abby Slaton will make it difficult for teams to double inside. Also, we will look to turn defense into offense to create easy scoring opportunities.”
Strengths: “We will have depth with a lot of size and experience,” says Anglin. “We have six seniors who played a lot of meaningful minutes last year and will look to finish their careers on a high note. Alongside our seniors, we expect a few of our underclassmen to make significant impacts this year. Eva Bishop (Junior), who was a massive part of our team’s success last year, is expected to have another big season this year. Also, expect to hear a lot about sophomores Maddie Suita and Ava Roberson.”
Biggest Challenges: “Our biggest challenge is taking care of the basketball,” adds Anglin. “Last year, we turned the ball over way too much. That will have to improve if we want to compete at a high level.”

“We expect to compete at a high level on a nightly basis,” states Anglin. “Region 7-AAA currently has 4 teams in the top-10 in AAA, so we will be tested night in and night out. I expect our kids to accept that challenge and improve each game.”
