The BLITZ Football Players of the Week are Dustin Barrett (Towns County) and Javin Gordon (Stephens County). Barrett won the Fan Vote with 8,813 of the 16,580 total votes. Gordon was the BLITZ Pick.

DUSTIN BARRETT – TOWNS COUNTY

Dustin Barrett was thrust into the QB role for Towns County when senior Connor Chastain was out with an injury. The Indians lost to Coosa, but had their best offensive output of the season with Barrett, the sophomore running back, under center. Barrett rushed for 268 yards, just 10 yards off Kyle Oakes’ school record. He averaged 7.7 yards per carry as a run-first look at QB. He also passed for 66 yards and a TD, and added 8 tackles on the other side of the ball. This is Barrett’s first POW award.

JAVIN GORDON – STEPHENS COUNTY

Javin Gordon probably could have won this award several times so far this year. Still, the junior bowling ball had maybe his best game of the season in the #2-ranked Indians’ win over White County on the road in Week 5. Gordon had 89 rushing yards and 2 TDs, added an 82-yd TD reception, and had a 60-yd punt return for a TD. All told, Gordon had 267 all-purpose yards and 4 scores! This is his third TD of the season, and he entered Week 5 as the second-leading rusher in the state in all classes.
