#5 Stephens County 35, #2 Rabun County 0

The Indians shut out the Wildcats in a top-5 showdown, marking the first shutout since 2013 for anyone against Rabun County. Stephens County got its first win in the series since 1959. After both teams traded several turnovers, including a pair of interceptions by Jasec Smith, the Indians drew first blood on a 4th & 5 conversion when Tripp Underwood found Davon Swinton for a 33-yd TD. Before the break, Underwood connected with Devin Cobb for a 21-yd score. Omari Feaster had TD runs of 82 yards and 1 yard, with a Javin Gordon 3-yd TD run in between.

White County 34, Habersham Central 6

The Warriors won big over the Raiders. Tripp Nix wasted little time before putting White County up with a 54-yd TD pass to Von Dre Nelson in the first quarter. A Habersham 37-yd FG by Michael Hill cut into the lead as the first half horn sounded. Out of the break, Nix had a 10-yd TD pass to Cam Wilson, but Hill’s 26-yd 3-pointer made it a 14-6 contest. Nix then threw his third TD, this time to Isaiah Whitlow, with the XP failing to push the score to 20-6. On the first play of the fourth, Ryan Fowler busted loose for a 69-yd TD, and he added a 25-yd TD run minutes later to cap the final at 34-6.

Lumpkin County 44, #10 Union County 27

The Indians made a statement with a convincing win over the Panthers. Lumpkin struck first with a 7-yd TD by Gerald Walker. Union retaliated with a 79-yd TD pass moments later from Caiden Tanner to Jensen Goble. The point after failed, leaving the Indians up 7-6. In the second, Mason Sullens scored from 5 yards out for the 14-6 lead, and Cal Faulkner’s 25-yd TD pass to Luke Evans padded it to 21-6. Tanner came up with a 3-yd TD run before the break to make it a 21-13 game. Josue Nieto punched in a 24-yd FG for the 24-13 lead, and the Panthers got back on the board with a Tanner-to-Ethan McBride 50-yd TD midway through the third. The Indians immediately answered with a Sullens 2-yd TD run and the 30-20 lead. Sullens’ third TD of the night came early in the fourth to push it to 37-20, and Tanner hit Braylen Rader on a 10-yd TD pass to bring it back to 37-27. Sullens’ fourth and final score was a 55-yd run to put the game away.

Lambert 41, Dawson County 18

The Tigers fell to Lambert, though it was fairly close midway in the third when Dom LeBlanc hauled in a 31-yd TD catch from Davis Glass to make it a 21-18 ballgame. Dawson wouldn’t score again though. It was a 14-11 Lambert lead at the half. LeBlanc also had a 37-yd, 45-yd, and 41-yd FG in the loss, as Dawson held a slim 8-7 lead late in the second. LeBlanc totaled 16 of the team’s 18 points.

Commerce 56, #8 Murphy (NC) 13

The Tigers earned a seond straight win over a ranked out-of-state opponent, this time on the road. Commerce fell behind early, but a Tysean Wiggins 40-yd TD tied it up late in the first. Jaiden Daniels had a 56-yd score to put CHS ahead 14-7, and Murphy retaliated to make it a 14-13 game after one. Jacari Huff had a 29-yd TD, Daniels a 65-yd TD, and Wiggins again with a 27-yd score for the 35-13 lead miday through the second. A pick six later made it 42-13. Wiggins added a third TD run of 89 yards to go up 49-13. Daniels had 218 yards in the first half alone, and Wiggins 105. The Tigers rolled on to win 56-13. The 50-point game is the first for Commerce since 2020, and the 56 is the most since 2019 against Towns County.

#4 Jefferson 30, Wren (SC) 14

The Dragons won with ease in a 30-14 win at Wren (SC). The home team scored first, but Gavin Markey found Christopher Law for a game-tying score in the first. Sammy Brown added a 12-yd TD late in the second. A safety and another TD made it 23-7 by the middle of the third, and a Jaden Butts pick six advanced it to 30-7.

Banks County 19, Oglethorpe County 14

The Leopards moved to 2-0 for a second year in a row to start the season, edging out Oglethorpe County by a 19-14 final.

Lake Oconee Academy 27, Towns County 0

The Indians were shut out by LOA 27-0, and have yet to score a TD in 2 games to start 2023.
