The Panthers shook off a sluggish start in which Chestatee went ahead 14-0, as Braylen Rader had a pair of rushing TDs and Caiden Tanner threw for a score to push Union County ahead by the end of the third.

Union gave up a late fourth-quarter touchdown to the War Eagles, though it came with both teams’ JV squads in, resulting in a non-counting 21-21 draw.

Chestatee’s new Wing-T offense jumpstarted the game, as Benjamin Plemons plunged in from a yard out midway through the first. A few minutes later, QB Josh Kermode found Cameron Davidenko for a 47-yard TD and the 14-0 lead.

Union County responded on the first play of the second when Tanner found a wide-open Jensen Goble for a 49-yard pass and catch. After Chestatee turned it over on downs on the next possession, the Panthers used a string of passes from Tanner to Tyler Grasty to get to the one. Grasty had a stellar catch to get inches from the line. Rader powered in for the tying score with 7:16 left in the half. That held through the half.

Coming out of the break, Union County stopped Chestatee’s first drive, then scored on a 15-yard TD by Rader to go ahead. The War Eagles scored in the final couple of minutes with the second units on the field.
